Nice one - you got your gearbox sorted then!

So you must have got your engine out of a T25 then ?- as you didnt need to swap the bits of the original engine.

Yes it was from a forum member, had been taken out of another van so it should of been straightforward. I got it as complete engine and gearbox with mounts ready to go in

Gearbox was a bit of an issue as my older selectors didn't match up, so had to take out the box that was mated and put my original box in. Which sounds straightforward but the new engine was sitting about an inch further back so the gearbox mounts didn't fit.

Had to take out the studs, lengthen and space the mounting plate an inch off the back of the box to get it to fit.

Then spent the last couple of days sorting out the linkage as that was obviously out by the same amount. Got her running yesterday evening and drove her back from Surrey to SE London. Went up the hills so much easier and sat happily at cruising speed. Very happy. Just a bit of tweaking needed as 3rd is a little hard to get and I need to re-check the fluids, all the driveshats, mounts etc etc.

Also had a test run in it the other day and all was good until my front to back water pipe burst and threw all the coolant over the road. Found that it had been patched together with a length of hoover pipe in the past! Should of noticed it before really, but all's sorted now.

Couldn't have done it all without the advice both here and on brickyard.

I know what you mean - I have FutBus to thank - i really didnt have the time or experience to do it on my own.

However, im confident enough to do it again on my own now - but hopefully i wont have to.

Now im thinking of changing the gearbox to see if i can get some more MPG - but for the difference its probably not worth the hassle.

Where did you get your new hoses from ? I thought they were hard to come by (and expensive)...

I would be interested to no why was the engine sitting an inch further back.I thought the 1y was the same as the engine mounting for the 1.6 ie just a straight swap over.Pleased to no you got it sorted.

Engine mounts were slightly different and the gearbox was different meaning that it all sat slightly further back than my previous ones. Think it was down to mine being an early '81 van and the mounts and box being out of a later van.

Is it not just the front of the gearbox that is different, the mounting plate?

The mount was different but also the problem I had was my early linkages would not fit the later box. Very frustrating to have to take it out again. But sorted now. Although 3rd is a little reluctant, needs some more tweaking.
