Ignition Fault on 2.1 DJ

Post by kefty »

My recon engine has failed after a week of running perfectly. On the way home (still running engine in so steady 50mph) one evening and it started to act like it was running out of petrol. It wasnt as confirmed by putting in petrol can full to double check the gauge was reading fine, 1/2 tank.

SO I called the AA. 20mins later he arrived and checked the fuel supply - ok. He then changed the module for a spare he had, this worked pefectly - started instantly then as I pulled away the same problem, just died again. AA man took another look and checked coil - ok. He pulled me home and suggested I had the pick up/distributor checked.

What parts should I fit and how easy are they to fit? I have new plugs and leads already...

same thing has happened to me last week after I had fitted an engine. My fault I traced to the engine control module which is located behind the o/s tail light. All I did was unplug multi plug and clean up connections. You may have the same problem or something different. Is it an ignition fault? fuel filter been changed, hall senders in distributors can be troublesome when they get warn loose spark and then after cooling down are o.k again for a while. do you loose spark? need to make sure that it is spark or fuel before further investigation.
