Budgie Mirrors,,,,

Yet another issue associated with T25 when driving.......Blindspots.

I don't know about you but sometimes I have momentary heart failure just before I pull out to overtake someone getting under my feet, sometimes on dual carrageways but more so on the motorway .
The stupid thing is I have one of those really fancy dash mounted 'Budgie Mirrors' ,it is fitted just below the right hand upper dash vent.
This gives me a fine panoramic view of the o/s of the van,,,,,,the thing is I keep forgetting to use it,,,

I'm in the market for some 'Big'mirrors but I'm not sure if the same problem still exsists even with these.?

Yes a nightmare indeed...I tend to use the shoulder check from my biking days

there are some stick on or clip on mirrors that cover this spot I saw a kennel tugger with them

I dont always trust the mirrors and always check by lookin over me shoulder. Often theres a bike comin up fast and he cant be seen in the mirror.

ive put the right hand mirror on the left and vice versa, so that the mirror runs horizontal and not vertical and its extended the field of vision, it actually looks better too

Even with the "big" mirrors (the ones on the outriggers) you still have a blind spot.
You could stick on one of those little spherical ones, they cover the blind spot fairly well, problem is they're so small that you don't really see all either.

Look over your shoulder, but also keep looking at the mirror several times before you overtake, i.e. prepare to overtake for a while, no rash movements into the next lane.

The VW isn't exactly a sports car, so with some road observation you can have your mirrors checked several times before you actually move out, by which time you should be aware of all the vehicles around you and where they are going.

On my motorhome I have two mirrors each side, a big flat one and a slightly smaller (still big though) spherical one. The motorhome would be undriveable without these, as I can't really look over my shoulder in it.
I have to watch the mirrors almost as much as the road ahead though, to know where I am and where the other vehicles are at all times.

1 1/2" x 2" ones on vans and their 2 1/2" x 3 3/4" big brother on lorries on other side of pond and they work great! Much better then the round ones that you only use 1/4 of for blind spot and the image is so small you can miss something in blind spot. I plan to bring some back for me and if you want one let me know and I will bring it too.
