Random sensor??

Just wondering if someone can tell me what the sensor is that fixes by the front of the flywheel??
The wire goes from the sensor to some sort of plug/socket

It was for the dealers diagnostic equipment for setting timing. Cut it off or leave it alone its never going to be used again.

has it got a 3 pin connector? i think it was for finding top dead centre! i think...
