power supply 1981 transporter camper ?

Post by skins »

Does anyone know if there is likley to be a power supply that i can use for computer etc connected to the leisure battery or do i have to buy one of those can converter things from halfords?
I have plug sockets but no power - i guess these only work when external power is connected.

????
By "I have plug sockets but no power" I presume you mean 13 A domestic sockets. These will only work when 'hooked up' on site.

You could buy a 12V to 240V converter (300W will do) then plug your Laptop charger into that.

You may be able to buy a 12V cigarette lighter plug charger for your laptop.

What size is your Leisure battery? What wattage is your Laptop?
How long do you expect to run the Laptop for?

not sure about the ampage of the plug sockets - it was a german import - there are two sockets beneath the sink area next to the fuse box and one above the fridge.

i'll be running laptop for few hours at a time -

The 12-240v converters in halfords are 150w - i will not be running that much stuff but how much will i be able to run using this?

150w converter surprisingly will supply 150w of power. ie about 0.6Amps
(0.625x 240= 150w)
While suppling the 150W the unit will draw 12.5 Amps from your battery.
This will flatten all but the biggest leisure battery in about 5 hours.
Look at the rating of your laptop PSU.

laptop requires 65W.

assuming 100% efficiency (probably nearer 90% for each voltage change)
Leisure battery will need to supply 5 A

60 Ahr battery will be dead flat in 12 hours.

In reality a 60Ahr battery will last about 7 or 8 hours.
