slight judder

Post by skins »

ok just took car (1981 a/c) for a run and seems to be running okish - however, when the car is at rest there is a judder every now and then.
What I mean is that the engine shakes just a bit more than I think it should once very few seconds and the sound from the exhaust seems to not to be as smooth as i think it should when this happens.
Any ideas what might be causing this?

if it still has the idle stabiliser fitted, then it could be at fault... disconnect the 2 plugs on it and plug them together and forget about replacing it..

replaced plugs and adjusted gap to spec.
there is no idle stabiliser fitted

could it be dodgy ht leads?

also - what does it mean if the idle screw and the bypass idle screw next to it have no audible effect when turned :?

yes it could ...or any thing connected to "bang" part of the cycle

Check and clean all low tension connections to the coil etc

is it a good clean white spark at tickover?

Toomanytoys i looked at this van over the weekend .There is no stabiliser connected its bypassed ie wires connected together.Ive suggested to do a check list ignition timing plugs & HT leads .Apparently uneven running has only just developed .The ignition timing was altered without strobe before trip to me .Ive suggested to skins read up on the wike to set up the ignition timing & have pointed out the diffrences between vacum pipes connected and not with regard to 7 degrees btdc & 5 atdc,If this was my van i would get a compression test before any think else.
