As part of the rebuild of the interior in my van I'm fitting a new fridge and cooker and intend to run them from said tank.
The problem I have found is that the solenoid operated gas valve fitted for safety is of the normally closed variety.
The idea is that when you start up and drive off the gas will be closed off and it will fail safe in the event of accident or power failure.
That's OK, but I have realised that the 0.9 amps that the solenoid pulls will flatten my battery in about two days while I'm running my fridge. That's if I don't listen to the radio/CD player or put any lights on.
I know I could fit a mains hook-up and this would solve the problem, I could even run my fridge on electric then, but I like the freedom of operating self sufficiently (and cheaply too).
I expect that the solenoid vale is there to comply with some regulation or code of practice so I am loathed to remove it without replacing it with some other safety device.
I have considered fitting the manually operated valve with a micro switch in order to sound a buzzer or to prevent the van from starting. Wondered if anyone else had come up against this problem and how they solved it.
