Rear hand brake cable

Post by Cruz »

Does anyone know where I can get the securing grommet that holds the rear hand brake cables to the underbody support? Or does it come already attatched on a new cable? (JK images suggest not)

The pictures below show that the left cable is a snug fit with the correct grommet but the right hand is missing this piece and a past owner has bodge some kind of bush onto the cable.

This is preventing my left hand cable from working properly and giving me a crap handbrake no matter how much it's tightened.

are you sure it is not pulling properly, my handbrake doesn't work very well either on any kind of slope. I was told to tighten it up on the shoes.

what are you "tightening"?
to get the handbrake to work correctly you adjust the brakes at the wheel not the handbrake cable? adjusting the cable just sets the height at which the lever in the cab locks the brakes on once they are correctly adjusted at the wheel.
trying to adjust the handbrake with the cable just pulls one end of each shoe in badly adjusted brakes against the drum and is fruitless.

Forget the tightening remark the cable is taught and the shoes adjusted by Simon baxter to the best he could get. Even he thought the missing grommet *could* be the problem as without it the cable seems to kink to me.

I'm just after finding out if the missing grommet can be purchased or if it's on a new cable.

say no more  the brakes will be adjusted properly fer sure
sorry to have ranted about adjusting the cable but it's suprising how many folk think you adjust the handbrake by tightening the cable :rofl
can't help with the grommet info but every cable i have bought for any other vehicle has come with everything.
