crew cab engine access panel queries.

Hi there,

Thought I throw this this way,

The sqaure access panel on the rear load bed, what should it be made from?

Was it a factory part?

I fab'd one from a piece of 12mm ply wood, but I think because of the heat from the engine it has bowed.

Which leads me to another question, Should there be the larger engine cover as well as per the other models Vans, Campers etc. As mine don't have one?

hi,all pick ups had a crappy wooden ply affair fitted from the factory,try to make a ally chequer plate copy,cj.

The original engine access panels were made from 20mm good quality treated Ply. Chamfered around the top edge. The engine bay side of it has a galvanised heat shield stapled to it. It was/is held in place by chunky shouldered bolts with fitted washers.

I agree with CJ that a chequer plate makes a good replacement. The wooden one certainly would not last long once its protective coating was scraped off as it does also sit proud of the load bed (unless you have wooden runners fitted as well).

Our crewcab (Vanfest Fire engine) still has an original one fitted if anyone wants a peek.

Anyone out there make chequerplate replacement covers at reasonable cost?

Must be a market for them, my ply one is almost disintegrating !
