Hi, having driven 150 miles home from vanwest through the worst rain in recent history, our 89 sa 2.1 bus started to run on 3, it seemed to dry out after a while but intermittently dropped onto 3. We managed to get home, without having to remove all of our gear out of the back to get to the engine, but this morning it sounded in quite a sorry state.
Do they all suffer this problem?
Can't find any info on the web about the difference between SA buses and German ones, and wondered if there are any under engine shields missing etc......

Check to make sure you've got the tin-ware below the coil at the bottom of the engine bay. Our's was missing .... although I didn't realise it for a year or two, it never having been there ... and spray/flood water from the back n/s wheel was nicely washing the coil and leads.
Answer is to get some WD40 or a quality Moisture Displacement spray and spray the leads (individually so you don't get them muddled up) at the coil or plug end and at the cap end. Sometimes you also get condensation in the cap itself too.

Them funny petrols with all that electrical whatnot in the engine, I knew it would end in tears.
I was going to suggest an air filter change as this is what causes mine to run like a bag of whatsits in the rain but Ians solution sounds more likely.

Some of that damp proof stuff is great great stuff. Sister old car suffered from a similar problem and my mums Mistro. But thats rovers great design, put the ECU on the bottom of the engine so it cooks when the engine is hot and soaks when the engine gets wet. heard of the new rover? the p45 lol
