Hi everyone,
Can anyone please tell me what a syncromesch is?
If this was damaged what sort of problems/symtoms would there be.
Also how much roughly would it cost to repair and how easy would it be?
Cheers everyone in advance.
Matt

syncromesh is the trickery within the gearbox that stops each gear crunching as you engage it with engine/driveshaft speed mis-matched.
the symptoms of a buggered one will definately be very notchy gearchanges with a little crunch as it goes in. this can be got round by carefully trying to match engine and road speed but is quite difficult when changing down the box as high engine revs are needed to match things up.
going up the box usually just means giving the engine revs time to drop right down before selecting the next gear.
fixing will be quite expensive i should think.
