Wiring speakers with Amp

Post by kefty »

Howdy, I have 2 6x9 speakers, and 1 10" sub. Could I run all 3 from a 2 channel amp, bridging the sub across very outside terminals? So the 3 speakers would be sharing the 2 channels - is this possible? Otherwise I will need a ne amp with sub output. I will be firing from a 4 x 45w channel Blaupunkt CD head unit or an mp3 player dont know yet would be best. Advice appreciated

You can either bridge or not, so if you bridge the sub across, the speakers will be mono too. They'll all work, just you not have 'stereo' any more. Just get a cheap amp for the sub. I picked up an Alpine V12 on Ebay for about 40 quid, it's blummin great.

The problem is if you dont have a low pass filter or sub output, your sub will be playing frequencies that it is not designed to. and will sound cack as soon as you turn it up.

I just use my head unit for the speakers as this is loud enough....45w rms X4 then I have an alpine amp bridged too 160w rms firing the subs via the subwoofer output on the rear of the head unit.
and believe me it kicks.
Any mid to high frequency above 50w rms is too loud to listen too in the van and will make your ears hurt.
Get the sub set up right and it will sound like a million dollars as long as you have a half decent head unit to start with.
IMHO...

get a new 4 channel amp and send 2 channels to the sub(bridged), theyre cheap enough. ignore the "max music power" and "pep"" power ratings, its RMS power your interested in, get the highest power amp you can afford. LHD does what i do, use the head unit to power the 6x9s in the doors and my sub out goes to a 600w rms amp and sub and tweeters in the back bridged accross 4 channels. the cups and saucers in the cupboard jump & rattle and the door mirrors vibrate so i cant focus on anything(but its unbearable) :?
