exhaust paint

just bought new exhaust from jk, its painted with that grey primer stuff,
have been looking at the frost website, has any one used their high temp coating, is it any good... or just as useless as all the other paints....

i just picked up one from gsf and the guy there reccommended i paint it.

Go to B & Q or similar and look for Plasticote "Bar B Que Black" spray paint, it`s great stuff, very heat resistant, dries to a satin black finish (not that horrible grey colour that a lot of heat proof paints do) cost about £6.00 for a big can.

cool, would i need a primer for that?

also, before i start on it tomorrow what size are the bolts? i might get some spares just in case, or replace with new for the sake of a better job.

If you meen the por 15 exhuast paint its completely useless, B+Q value emulsion would be better.

exhaust rot from the inside out so your wasting your time, in order for the paint to stay on you will also need to get all the primer off and degrease really well before applying. Most car sgops sell VHT or manifold paint this is best. The black stuff tends to go grey in time

it was VHT paint that GSF told us to paint onto the exhaust we bought today

I painted mine with black paint used on wood burning stoves.

The finish would probably have lasted longer if I'd cleaned all the rust off first.

exhaust rot from the inside out so your wasting your time, in order for the paint to stay on you will also need to get all the primer off and degrease really well before applying. Most car sgops sell VHT or manifold paint this is best.

All exhausts rot from the inside but exhausts on all T25s (both a/c & w/c)
& all other a/c VWs where they are fitted across the rear of the vehicle are prone to rot externally as well on the ends where spray from the rear wheels keeps them wet with salt/water from the roads in winter.

Yes, you do need to remove the primer & degrease in thinners before spraying with VHT Exhaust Paint which will withstand temperature up to
650C/1200F.
