Rear seatbelts.....

Post by lhd »

I purchased a set of 3 ponit rear belts for the van at Bustypes £70 and now I'm having trouble fitting them. I have found the mounting locations but they are obviously different to the 84>.
Is there any way of making them fit or will I need to buy a new set.
Here's some pics to show you what I mean..
mounting holes......

and seat belt...

I cant believe I didnt ask wether they would fit early and late, although I thought they would be the same...................

Not that I can see, I had Jed on the phone earlier taking a look at his ( cheers Jed) and his top hole is an inch from the rear door seal and the others are six inches below, but if you look to the left in my photo you can see a mounting which I presume is the seat belt one, but I'm not sure. there is some sound deadening stuff all over the place and its as right pain to get off.
1983 also.
deffinitely original vags and yes starts with 253.

Thats the correct one the D is for the passenger side and the one ending in G is cupboard side I checked with Steve Walker at eastfalia.

The one to the left of your pic looks right but it can not be the one???

that would mean the reel goes there and would look stupid I am going to pull mine apart as i have the same belt there has got to be a mounting point at the bottom of that top hole???

Just postulating Rob but the one under the window looks more like a mount for the back of a seat than the belt itself. (oop as per Anil's pic that just loaded after I posted ;) )

Much as it might pain you it is possible to drill holes if they aren't where you would like them.

Rob
my velle is the same year as your Westie, we found the top mounting fine, but almost directly below down near floor level there was just a hole through a thin panel, so I got plates welded over that hole and bolted seatbelt reel in. From the outside it looks just like Neil's picture above, if you need a picture inside I'll do one tonight.

That would be great Skell as I think I have the same problem you had. There are holes at floor level but theres no way they would be strong enough to hold a seat belt.

By Jove Iv'e found em......... I was expecting a big steel plate or something really solid.
Although I suppose three holes should be strong enough.........
Thanks everyone for the help...
I'm slightly embarassed as they were in front of me mincers all the time......
