away to Collect a 16" Doka

I'm heading of Germany today to collect a 16" Doka.
All going well We should reach England with it on some time on Friday evening, we then stay in Sandhurst over night before heading up to Liverpool and catching the ferry back home to the Isle of Man on Saturday evening.
So If you see a brick red 16" Doka with German plates looking lost That will be me, not used to these motorway things!

Best of luck Manxman, hope its a goodie, wave as you fly past on the M1 between Hemel and Luton (long-term roadworks there, just North of M25), you might look to stay on the M25 and get on the M40 instead..

We've just reurned from Germany, Absolutely no problems driving abroad no road works or hold ups until we landed in Dover and the last 170 miles of our 1500 mile trip it took over 4 hours to get home.

I don't suppose you could give a step by step idiots guide to importing a syncro as I think this will have to be my next step to getting a syncro myself?

I've ended up doing this several times now for various reasons. One reason was too much beer, but thats another story...basically:

1) Find Van
2) Communicate with seller
3) Get lots of piccies of the nasty areas and good areas
4) Agree a Price
5) Ask them very nicely to arrange export plates - you'll need to send them a letter and a photocopy of your passport (the van is required to have a TUV (German MOT) for it to get export plates) Generally these include insurance for however long you need 7 days - 1 month etc.
6) Fly over - hopefully the will meet you at the airport
7) Give them money, drive van home

Get MOT (tape LHD headlights / add rear foglight)
9) Take MOT and import paperwork +insurance paperwork to local DVLA office. £38 to register + Road Tax.
10) Bingo, 1 x UK van.

Obviously I've missed out a few things, but its pretty much that simple. If you wanna chat I'd be happy...

thanks very much for the info. i presume its the same deal from Belgium ( Busman) as for germany EU and all that. Will get talking to the missus about money then the Busman. If you do have the time I would love to know how you imported a van through too much beer. I might try that way

Drunken ebay bidding with a friend. Turned into a trip to Germany, a 6 country pub crawl within 30 hours. Finished with last orders at the local. Ended up with one very nice Syncro.

I bought the syncro 16" from Lars Neuffer He is based in a place called Goettingen, its very easy to get to if you fly to Hanover and catch the train down (30 min) He will probably come and collect you from the station, if you are there to buy a syncro.

The site is not up to date as he has far more to chose from than on the site, including some very nice tristars and a syncro 16" hunting version etc. so if you want a syncro I'd give him a ring and tell him what your after, super guy to deal with and a geniune vw enthusiast.

As added bonus to you lot living in the U.K. you wont have to pay the £264 ferry charge back to the Isle of Man so it shouldn't cost much to go and collect it.
