Rock N Roll bed

Post by rustyundchen »

Hi,

I have ripped all the stuff out my van as It was a wierd set up and the bed was not practable. With reference to the following album can people please offer me some advice;

http://www.photobox.co.uk/album/5315950

Image 0444 shows the view from the front of the cab now originally there was cupboards over the bulkhead and on top a work surface up to the base of the fire extinguisher. I had to fold down the front seats and use boards etc to have a bed but i want a rock n roll bed.

Now I have been reading about 3/4 or full length ones but would like to be told how they work. Now I have only seen one briefly when I looked at another van I didn't get. Am i right in assuming the cupboard on the right will have to go because the seat and bed will be flush up against the side and the sliding door? I can remove it no problem and hopefully leave the cupboards above. Now forgive me for my innocence but am I right in assuming the bed would be bolted to the bulkhead seen on the picture which I ripped the carpet off? Also is the bed fitted at such a height as when the seat is transformed into the bed it folds down level so you have the seat board and the back board now level with the top of the engine compartment. Do you actually lie with you head up towards the tailgate or other way round in that one utilises the surface covering the engine?

In the picture its hard to see but there is a few parts of the bulkhead that protrude e.g. the part directly below the fire extinguisher. Now to the right of this the two channels are much more solid to knock as is the same on the opposite side. Is this where one would mount the hinges for the bed. Or do I have to have a bracket or something welded onto this piece?

I intend to get a bluebird bed as it seems the whole mechanism is in place and one just needs to attach. Looking ahead the van is a 85 Caravelle 1.9DG and you will see in the pic there is a seat belt attached and also on the other side. Could these be used for the seat?

Thanks for any comments but I have no idea how these things are attached because I aint seen one and have read the instructions from JK are pretty useless.

Thanks again

Russell.

Hi Russell the easiest thing would be to look at someone elses van, can you get to a show or meet? with the 3/4 rr bed the cupboards on the same sideas the sliding door will have to go with a full width, both sides will need to go, have a look at the wiki and do a search for rock n roll beds , both at top of page.
