Hello...
I'm looking to change my engine (straight replacement 1.9 w/c DG) and I have come across a company called Elite VW (www.elitevw.com ), based in Basildon, Essex. I was just wondering if anyone had used them before for an engine change and how good / reliable they were?
I'm aware of the WIKI advise to buy new but at £1400 that's a little beyond my current means....
I've been warned by several people not to use VEGE or Volkspares due to varying levels of quality. . and yes, buy not fitting a new one i'm aware that If it's a bad one, i could be replacing it again in 12 months time.
Cheers
Tim

Got an elite 2.1.......running nicely....
However, and this is important if you live some distance away.....
to benefit from the 2 year warrenty, they need to service the engine regularly. Four times in the first two years. ie small one (around £60) at 6 months, a major one (around £100-120) at a year, a small one at 18 months, and another major one at the 2 year anniversary.
I am not sure whether they will honour the warranty if servicing not done by them....you would need to discuss this with the chaps and decide a way forward. Have always found them extremely helpful!

had a 1.9 w/c dg reconned at elite over a year ago. Enjoyed the service, they were very helpful (you could holiday in their yard-if you're an engine saddo) and the engine's doing very nicely. No oil leaks or obvious loss of power. They're very competitive. Looking at the set-up there they do some of their own machining.
Check that they will put a new, and good quality, needle bearing into the gearbox end of the cranksahft for the gearbox input shaft. Mine collapsed sometime after doing serios gbox damage.
