Gearbox mount.

Big lumps of metals and spanners. Including servicing and fluids.

Gearbox mount.

Post by BarnyE »

What’s going on here then?

My van has a home made gearbox mount, so thought I’d order a new proper one from brickwerks.
But when I offer them up, they are completely different levels! If I raise the gearbox up enough that the brackets line up, the selector rod will be hitting the chassis. There’s about 4” difference!

I have a 5 speed diesel. So according to the listing it’s the right piece. ImageImage

There were a few different original ones depending on year and tranny.

Donyou have a conversion engine? Your exhaust is not factory.
Your engine mounts could be also DIY

definitely not standard set up, looks like maybe a 5 cylinder audi engine mated to a 5 speed box, hence whoever did the installation modified an old 4 speed petrol mount to make it fit

Yes, it’s got a 1y conversion, hence the weird exhaust. But as far as I’m aware it’s mated to a standard gearbox. Maybe I’m wrong.

It might be mated to a standard gearbox, but your engine mounts might be DIY.
Or this is an early/late problem.
What year it is? Was it factory diesel?

Ah, who knows, definitely not going to work anyways. Put the old one back on after a coat of paint. Changed the bush while I was there.

Could have been a petrol from factory, I don’t know its history. I didn’t do the engine conversion. It does have petrol clocks, and I welded in a diesel battery tray. So I guess it was a petrol, but don’t know for sure.

The M plate under the left front seat will tell us what it was when it left the factory, and if it still has the white sticker under dash knee high drivers side usually that will tell us even more
