Starter motor overhal

Hi People 

has anybody successfully remover the started motor throughout gear stop ???

there is a circular clip, inside a swagged tube that is the stop for the throw out gear, how do I remove the stop from the motor shaft

decided to clean it without removing the stop, after much looking and head scratching, it appears it is removable only with destruction

afaik you can push the collar down the shaft to enable access to the ring which you will probably need small horseshoe pliers to open out and pull out of the groove, and which is probably a replace every time item, as that is how it is assembled shown in the parts catalogue and the exploded diagram in the manual - there may be a tool specifically for this job that the Bosch refurbishers have as most starters of that era made by Bosch are pretty much the same construction, but unless you are replacing the driver or the spring it probably isn't necessary most of the time to strip that far

Aidan's right, you can push the collar down against the spring.
Here's the tool I use.

The little wire circlips can be bought from Simply Bearings in the circlip section of their webshop, although I've reused them sometimes.
1.9D (AEF) pop-top. Aaaaahhhhh........that's better.
