Hello,
That would be 17 mm. If you take a M10 bolt of about 2 cm and you put on that two nuts turned against each other, you have an adaptor you can use with your normal how-do-you-call-it wrench/tool/thingy.
I hope you get my drift....

You can buy a 17mm g/box plug remover from Halfords--takes a half inch drive rachet--you wont get that in tho---trick is (I find) is hold the bit in the filler plug socket & get a 17mm open end spanner round it---if you aint undone it before it may be very tight---be careful not to slip or you will round off socket(then you are frelled!)----because of this(imho)tis better to spend £3 on the proper tool----

two head bolts and a threaded bar work, but the proper socket works fine with a short extension, as long as you are in the right gear

I always try to engage 'fat bloke gear' when undoing the drain and fill plugs on the gearbox

and remember the gearbox oil comes out a lot faster than the sump oil ('cos the hole is bigger') to avoid an exxon valdez situation.....
