fitting an home made r&r bed...

Post by The_blue »

My van is empty, everything was minging so it was binned.

I've started making the new guts and within seconds stumbled on a problem.

I didn't relise the van tapered so much, the rear door is quite abit more narrow than the with near the sliding door.

I've planned for a rectangle bed made from 3 cussions (quite standard)

do you guys have a gap down the side of the cussions? I was making wardrobes for the drivers side as is fitted in most but was planning on having the bed upto the edge on the other side but i now think i'm going to have to leave a gap otherwise it won't work.

Is this how most are fitted?

Just wedge a pillow in the gap?

mine is shaped to fit the van, and it works nicely because the van also taper towards the roof, so the shape allows the seat back not to foul the sides as it is raised....... measure the width at the back and the width at just blow the window level just behind the sliding door...

yer, i see what your saying.

Was making the bed 4 foot 6. How wide is your bed at the rear door point?

Did you start at 4'6" and get bigger, or go smaller?

mr leisuredrive built mine, i have no idea of the width, but it goes from the wardrobe to the wall, no gaps, and unless you have a leisuredrive wardrobe, my width wont help you i guess.......

there is a club called the self build motorhome or camper club or something, they have a website that is just up your street, very interesting.
