I was seriously considering it last year.

If we can get a few people up together to get a deal on multiple kits ( i.e. price reduction, or maybe not send the 3 groove pulley ) then I would be back in the market for one.

what's the "drive" to do it though?

Economy?
Performance?
Reliability?
Parts Availability?

Its fuel economy with me. I believe with this kit the MPG is significantly improved. The reason I asked if anyone had fitted it was to find out just how much of a difference it had made.

Exactly that for me too.
I had bought all the DJ digijet components to install that, but the wiring harnesses are in bad shape - this project seemed like the next best thing ( if not better )

How many miles do you do a year?

if you did a minimum of 10,000 miles a year it would take about 3 1/2 years to recoup the expenditure of item + delivery based on a 25% increas in economy 20 - 25 mpg.  That excludes any professional fitting ~( if you go that route ).

Cheers

From what I have read, mapped ignition such as Aldon Amythest piggybacked onto the stock efi gives the biggest gains for the least expense. Still requires setting up on a rolling road.
Sequential efi vs batch fire (digijet, digifant and motronic equivalents) gives much smaller gains for considerably bigger outlay and it also requires rolling road otimisation.

PS no engine management swap is going to deliver a 25% increase in mpg, even on a box fresh rebuild. 10% might be a more realistic expectation.
However, it might bring reliability and driveability gains especially if your Digi system is temperamental. But a few years down the road, what about spare parts? Because sensors fail and without them its limp mode or no start.

PPS to make the most of modern fuel and mapped ignition or full engine management, the engine needs to have a minimum of 10:1 static compression ratio, all VAG shopping 8v efi engines are around 10.3:1 SCR so unless you have a really good DJ its not worth the cash or hassle.

I was being as optemistic as possible with 25% 20mpg up to 25mpg. and would probably bee seen as an improvement of better drivability making a wider avrage increase. But as you say, to get best improvements your goign rolling roading and that's more money on top

Might not get accurate peak output figures though because the wind-down is used to work out the transmission losses, but otherwise its got two driven wheels on the rollers and the man squeezes the pedal.
