pop up roofs
can i get my hands on a pop up roof for my t25 1981 and how easy is do it yourself?? or am i mad? plus i want to put a window in my sliding door so i can see who i am pulling out on on juctions etc. has anyone got one, can i buy a kit and again...how easy to diy???

Pop-up roof can be fitted FDIY if you have the skill and tools to do it, not an easy job to do it right though. If you get one from a scrap van, get all the bits that go with it, every bracket, nuts and bolts etc, and measure and make a diagram of where it fits on the roof for cutting a hole. NOTE that the factory Westy vans came from VW with a different roof panel pressing to a standard van so it won`t fit as it did originally.
Same for window, get a standard fit one from a breaker, measure twice, cut once !!

Devon side lifting roof/pop up roof
I cut the roof and fitted a devon side lifting roof my self last week.The task went fine but there are a few issues to consider.When you do the tin top 90 degrees bends for the fibre glass skirt/base it would be wise to consider the bending allowence as to allow a nice snug fit for pop riviting.I believe from looking at matts pictures on the wiki there is a specific tool that devon used for this and one of our members has this.When i used pop rivets try to obtain blind or use sealent to stop water running through them.The roof cap will proberly have the bellows and metal frame attached.When it is lifted back on to the roof this could get damaged.I undone some of the little phillips screws and used nylon tie wraps through to tie off the bellows and frame.To get the cap back on the roof i perched one end on the back of the van and the other on a flat barrow.Then got under the cap and gradually pushed it along to its pivet and was able move it into position.
