I have a 81 tintop with a v6 essex and struggling to get it started, ive replaced pretty much everything to do with spark and fuel except the ingnition control module which ive attached a link to a photo, I cant find a direct replacement, are they all the same as long as i get one for 6 cylinders?
Don't think it will be dependnat on Cylinder Number , all it is is an ignition amp reciving a pulse from the Hall or opto sensor and then choppign the coil.
Can you induce a spark manauly by tappig the coil?
It may be difficult to find one, you may be better either converting back to Points or Going to something new from Burton.
yeah i agree the insulation has gone, i dont think this has been changed since 1981 and so it must be electronic from new, it also has a balast which was confusing as to whether this was needed with the new coil i bought from accuspark
sorry for my ignorance im not a mechanic, im just trying to wing it because all the garages around here have given up on this brick
ive got a spark but it fades on turning over so thought it might be the module. when i did get it started it once it felt like it was just firing on three cylinders
its years since I have looked but the ford TFI stuff is relqativly uninversal. even the lightly more advanced units that get a "SAW" signal from the ECU would produce a spark if the SAW was not present. This is much earlier design and just a basic ignition amp.
Check the distributor is correctly earthed as the last essex I worked on had poor earth ( among other issues after being dormant for 30 years...)
