"E" Plug on rear of Fuseboard loose black wire..

Sorry to "sick" all this up on you guys, but I am way out of my depth.

My Indicators were working perfectly.
Staying with friends down a long, dirt road (6km, twice per day!)
Switched on the Indicator - didn't work..
Checked the Back bulb holder, all the bulbs had "bounced" out of their holders!!
Replaced them.. 
Now Indicators wont work at all!

Checked all the bulbs, they are working and seated in the sockets correctly..
I changed the Relay - seems it was working already..
All I got was a dim green light on the indicator bulb, when I tried to indicate.
(Readers of this forum will have seen my post about a flashing red light, now solved, and seemingly unconnected..)

So on the display, I've had very dim dash instrument lights - always..(Sometimes they are there, sometimes totally off..)
These bumpy roads, the Full beam indicator went, then seems to have come back.. phew..
Indicators - sick green, unblinking light, indictors not working (hazards show all bulbs good,.)

I decided to look for loose wires behind the dash ..
(There was a Headphone plug that had been wired in by the previous owner that worried me, so I wondered what else he might have disturbed! He told me "I'm an electrician, so I've added lots of low voltage lights in the back..)

(Now If I plug the van in at a Campsite, all the other campers leccy blows!)
The fridge doesn't work..(Although he claimed it did on Battery and 240v..!)
None of his sockets work without tripping the tiny fusebox he installed at the back of the van that he installed..! PHEW!!)

What a mess..
But not as much of a mess as I found behind the dash..
This is the "E" Multi-point connector (Black) for main wiring harness.. 
It has this short black cable sticking out, touching god knows what, and what should it be attached too!?



The Dashboard circuit looks dodgy to an untrained eye..
Here are several photos..
Maybe you could look them over and give me your opinion?
(Looks like somebody left the toothpaste tube open again..)


Is this last connector why my dash lights are so dim?

Finally I know we make a lot about voltage loads..
He's added a few USB chargers up front..
(I think all his other daft things come off the Leisure Battery, so I'm less worried about them..)
Should I be thinking of learning how to upgrade the battery connector.. run a new 10mm or 16mm cable to the crown - I'm slightly groping in the dark here..hoping I'll use the correct words..)

Think the Crown looks OK..

That corrosion looks far from ok. The crown and connectors need a good cleaning.

the 'black' wire with the exposed connector floating around looks like it's grey and blue which is dash lights circuit - which pin is it in the E connector, the pins are labelled

with that information you can look on the wiring diagram and see where it is supposed to be connected to

wiring dagrams can be found on Syncrosport web site or Sir Adventure's site

If that is a clock module on the right side of the dash then I may have a much better condition circuit board for it, if it is rev counter then likely you will have to repair it yourself - looks like someone has used self adhesive copper tape to repair the connector end of the board, and it is missing the tab the board folds over and the connector retainer that keeps the connector secure
You may need a SHC repair board

You do know there is a dimmer for the dash lights the wheel on the bottom of the light switch ? The switch may need cleaning, if replacing then you need to check the part number carefully the last letter of the part number makes a difference

Yes, had tried the dash dimmer and given it a dose of WD40, but no change!

Dear Friends,
This looks like the correct Circuit diagram for my loose grey/black lead,
Possibly instrument Dash problem..
It's plugged into the back of the E Socket, but where does it come from in the first place to arrive at the back of the E Socket, and help gladly accepted..

so at the bottom of the diagram you have track numbers and when a lead ends in a square box with a number in that is the continuation of the lead, so in this case flip along the chart to track 90 and look up you will see a box with 71 in it and that's the continuation of the wiring

also check 112, 50 and 38 and look sideways to a round continuation with A4 in it in case it is any of those

Just to point out, that wiring diagram is the dimmed illumination. Grey / Blue, not Grey / Black.
The colour notations are abbreviations of the German names for colours.

So black is SW for Schwartz.

I will troll through my notes and my fusebox thread for the E plug.

I did see this -

E9 GREY / BLACK = LEFT TAIL LIGHT in the REAR LIGHT CLUSTER and pin C4

Just for info -

Black = sw for Schwartz
Blue = bl for Blau
Brown = br for Braun
Green = gn for Grun
Grey = gr for Grau
Lilac = Li for Lilak
Red = ro for Rot
White = ws for Weiss.
Yellow = ge for Gelb

And so on...

Just to add - where different dash plugs are joined, you often get a single spade connector in a yellow or white insulator.

So look at your C plug for a matching spade connector.

Although a quick look at the yellow C plug shows a single red wire with a spade connector and yellow insulator.

This is fun, isn’t it?

Looking at your first photo, it looks (if the orientation of the E plug is correct) as if the errant wire is coming out of E2, and if you squint you can almost imagine that there is some green colouring on the insulation along with the black.

Which fits in with page 83/13 of the wiring diagram, read along the bottom to position 132 - follow the column to the top and a black/green wire emerges from E2, and is meant to be connected to connector T3b, a 3pin connector behind the dash.

Could this be your wire?

You should be able to find connector T3b by following the white/green from E7 and black/grey from E8, they both connect to T3b as well.

For 1.9 petrol, it’s page 61/14 and column 135.
For 2.1 petrol, page 79/15 and column 152.

On my spare plug, E2 is black green
It appears to be the output from the wiper circuit.

As Roger confirms, it does indeed track through a few 3-pin and 2-pin connectors to the rear wiper motor assembly
