Temperature sensor/sender identification help required

Post by Rdav1s »

Hi all,

I've just added a VDO oil pressure and 120c temp gauge. The oil pressure is all up and running but I have a few questions regarding the temperature senders and wiring.

It's a 1989 JX UK Syncro which is totally standard (apart from these 2 gauges 😀)

Referring to the pic, are my assumptions correct.

1. This is the coolant sender for the aux waterpump and in the case of my syncro, the turbo cooling fan. Cables are brown and red.

2. This is the coolant sender for the stock temp gauge. Cable is yellowand red.

3. This blue and white wire goes to the glow plug coolant sender.

4. This yellow and red cable goes to the dash temp gauge.

5. This green wire is from the VDO gauge yet to be connected. I'm assuming if (2.) Is not rated at 120c, I need to change it for a M10x1.0 120c one so it matched the VDO gauge.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

The coolant sender having brown and red cables, it is likely for the aux water pump as well as turbo cooling fan. Meanwhile, yellow and red cable probably connect to original temp gauge. The blue and white wire need to connect with the glow plug coolant sender. For green wire coming from VDO gauge, it must be linked with right sender. If the current sender not rated for 120°C, you must change it with M10x1.0 120°C sender so it fits VDO gauge correctly.

So, your saying the same as me then? My assumptions are correct?. Thanks
