Can’t select 4th or 5th gear

Post by Corniki34 »

Got myself a shiny new stick as old one was bent.
Got it fitted without to much trouble but now can’t select 4th or 5th gear.
It appears as though the forks on the shifter are hitting the ally guide block.
I have tried the adjusting bolts in the cab and played with the linkage but to no avail.
Off to a festival in a couple of weeks which isn’t going to work very well with nowhere to sleep! 😬
Help much appreciated.

The set up of the linkages is in the Haynes manual , you will probably have to go through it , making sure all the linkages are in good order .
Just remember a couple of millimeters at the gearstick end could be a couple of centimeters movement at the other end
And the position of the plate that holds the stick to the cab floor has quite bit of adjustment to get wrong

Have a read. Here too

Standard lever or 025Motorsport?
If its the latter then you need to set it so that the lever rests in the 1-2 position in neutral, not the 3-4 position as per the original.
Adjustment is done at the connection between front and rear shift rods under the floor, just behind the fuel tank on a 2wd.
13mm spanner and two sets of mole grips to turn the rods against each other are required.

Thanks for the replies and the diagram Steve.
That was a big help as I realised I had somehow put the sliding pin and the boot in on the wrong side 🫣.
Took it apart and refitted it all correctly, gears are best they’ve been in some time! Bring on the festival.
