Just acquired my first VW Transporter T3/T3 camper so know nothing about vehicle but am keen to learn so I can carry out own repairs / maintenance. Van is a 1990 Auto Sleeper hightop with 1.6 TD engine.
My first problem is identifying the engine as I know it is not the original unit ( but I believe the replacement engine is also a 1.6 TD from a Westie ) I have searched everywhere and have been unable to find the location of the engine number - CAN ANYONE HELP PLEASE.

Engine number is below no3 injector, helpfully right behind the top of the bypass hose. First use sandpaper, then rub with spit and a finger then a dry cloth to reveal the number.
1.9D (AEF) pop-top. Aaaaahhhhh........that's better.
