Brake lights - now Sorted!

Whilst going through testing all lights I noticed today that the brake lights don't work.

I pulled this out of the drivers side unit!



What is the correct replacement bulb type? Can't make out any numbers on it.

Checked the passenger side and no bulb hmmmm.

It looks like I'm missing a clip/contact for the bulb, unless someone can tell me otherwise?

That's your rear fog light, not your brake light I'm afraid. Very often only fitted on the drivers (RHS) side.

I haven't had a t25 before and with no brake lights working had nothing to reference!

Is the brake light the standard dual filament bulb then combined with the rear night driving light?

I'll have another look!

The brake light is just a single filament, 1156 bulb. No such fancy thing as two filaments here!

Hmm well the bulbs work when swapped with the indicators.

Should the brake lights work with just the ignition on? Was wondering if it needs to be running due to being a pressure operated switch?

Thinking it might be the switch, faulty or contacts need cleaned etc? Reading up is it correct that it is located in the master cylinder?

The pictures I had seen was of a lhd and it looked like they had the dash out to get at it?

Sorry for the novice questions but I'm learning on the fly with the T25!

The brake lights will work even with the ignition off if I recall right. Engine doesn't need to run no

Have you looked under the rubber boot on the light cluster, see if anything looks bad there,?

Yes the brake switch(es) are screwed into the master cylinder, which is underneath the dash binnacle (rhd & LHD). If you did take that off (pop the cover off, then it's 4 screws and some wires to unplug), you could pull the white plug off the brake switch and jump the contacts, to verify that it lights up, before swapping switches

Might have one switch, might have two. early late maybe?

Thanks for the advice, under both rubber boots looks good other than drivers side, two wires have splits in the sheath, plan to heat shrink wrap those once I confirm continuity etc.

It's a 1980 2.0 CU, once hopefully running after the fuel pump is done I shall get back on to this.

Schofields are just down the road so hopefully if I need a switch they will have one.

Checked and the switch was faulty, nipped down to Schofields and he had a 2 pin one in stock

Replaced and we now have brake lights
