I have an old radio in the back of my van like this. First question, what do all the mlu buttons do? Assume medium/long wave etc but why are they repeated? Secondly as you can see I'm missing a knob. Anyone know where I can get one? Is it possible to tune the radio with the knob missing? I know the radio definitely works.
Preset “memory” buttons , medium wave x2 , longwave x1 and fm x3 tune to station, then pull the memory button out to set the push in and push in to listen to that preset memory after .
You might be able to tune by turning the nines most of the right control without a knob
The M M L U U U buttons are your radio station presets
As you correctly infer
M = Medium Wave (AM) preset 1
M = Medium Wave (AM) preset 2
L = Longwave (AM) preset 2
U = UHF (FM) preset 1
U = UHF (FM) preset 2
U = UHF (FM) preset 3.
It is indeed possible to tune the radio by rotating the right spindle, unless it is particularly stiff or you have poor finger dexterity (grip).
I must admit, that it is a long time since I had used a radio with manual tuning and preset buttons.
I had long forgotten about the "pull out to set" milarkey.
You could look online for old school radio repair places who 'may' have some old radio spares.
Or you may be able to find some similar matching knobs off a similar Philips radio.

A few years ago I attended one of the Cheshire classic car shows (Tatton Park), and there was s chap selling old radios on his stall. I think he said that he had a shop in Blackpool.
Try looking around one of the auto-jumbles or even a local car boot sale. Old stuff like this pops up from time to time.
And of course, there are your online auction sites.
Ebay, Gumtree etc...
As you can see on the front, it is a Philips 461 radio.
You could do a google search online.
There is a complete radio for sale on ebay for silly money - from Lithuania of all places.
1983 Tin Top with a poorly DF and 4 speed DT box.
1987 Electrics and a DJ engine.
Maybe one day I might get it finished
