Fuel Tank Condition

Post by The Hairy Camper »

So I bought some nice new stainless steel coolant pipes for my van.

I just removed the fuel tank to fit them, overall the tank looks in pretty good condition, but I don't think I trust these 2 small rusty feed lines?

What do people think? Should I put it back in, or start a new scrap pile?

Cheers.

Personally, I would replace the tank if you have the funds. Or at least rub the rust on those pipes down and see what the metal is like underneath them. And if it's ok give the tank a coat of paint.

I appreciate both of your replies. I would like to replace it really, but I was hoping to put it all back together this weekend.

The pipes actually cleaned up nicely, and I would like to replace the whole brake pipe system in the future, which looks like will require the tank coming off again. I might try and get one more summer out of this tank. It looks in great condition on the inside.

I put a bit of anti rust paint on it before packing in for the day.
