T25 water hose

Post by sneakyalien »

Hi all,
My T25 1.9 petrol (1986) has developed a leak. I've managed to remove the rubber hose in question, but there seems to be some kind of bolts still connected to the point in the engine where the hose used to be.
Does anyone know what hose part do I order and do I need any other bits?
Thanks

The bits with the bolts might be your flange

https://brickwerks.co.uk/product/coolan ... ead-flange Someone else might need to tell you if the early and late are the same, worth phoning Brickwerks maybe.

I had to change this on my old van and getting the flange off was a terrible experience, then when I got the new one on I realised I'd not put the new gasket under it so had to do it again.

Thanks for the reply.
Sounds like it could be difficult. I might have to pay someone to replace the hose for me.
Just difficult to get the van to a garage without any water running around the engine :)
Is there anyone in Preston area who could do this for me and I will pay you?
Cheers

The hose replacement isn't so bad, it's if the flange to the head is in bad condition, mine was mostly rust so had to go.

Just preplan your hose clips so you can access them, I know that sounds obvious.

Yes, I think the flange is rusted because the bolts are all rusted.
I'll order the parts and give it a go.
Thanks for your help.

3 important lessons I learned from this forum.

1 - Soak your nuts.
2 - Take your time.
3 - Don't mention Brexit.

Give the flange and bolts a dose of looking at.
If they have little more than surface corrosion, paint them with a "direct to rust paint" and leave them alone.

If your rubber hose has cracked (very likely with age) then the bolt heads and flange will be getting a regular hot bath, which will speed up corrosion.

I am an avid fan of "don't fix what isn't broke".
If the leak is the hose, replace the hose and hose clips.

If you start digging and disturbing more and more parts, chances are you will find more problems and possibly snap parts or fixture studs in the process.

Second important statement.
The more you dig - the more problems you will find.

I know it sounds like burying your head in the sand, but a whole load of stress and trouble can be churned up due to un-necessary tinkering.

The flange has to come off - it has rotted and the connection where the rubber pipe connects to has rotted away.
I soaked the nuts in some spray that was supposed to make it easier to remove the nuts, but I could not budge them. I'm going to have to get the camper to a garage to get the work done.

Alright Sneaky,
I live near Preston . Near me , at Freckleton there’s a garage conversant with these vans , next door to Walton’s Coaches . Not used them myself , but others say they’re ok .
Will try and find contact for you .
Failing that, Steve Dawson at Chorley , VW Doctor, should be able to assist . He’s on Facebook .
