Open barrel crimp tool help

Post by 3cylinders »

Does anyone know of a crimp tool supplier for open barrel Faston type terminals which can crimp 9.53mm terminals with cable conductor CSA of 10mm2 (approx. 8 AWG)?

This is the terminal type:
https://brickwerks.co.uk/product/electr ... ith-latch/

At this point I'll happily settle for someone who owns an appropriate tool, knows what a well-executed crimp should look like and will crimp the cable end for me.

Most crimping tools have a non insulated crimp section, they can be fiddly, do you have a crimping tool ?

you can do those with a normal crimper. Just one part at a time.

I always crimp and solder

Yep - it states "3 to 6mm"
So you will struggle with 10mm cable.

10mm2 is a bit wide for those spades. However there are long handle ratcheting crimpers for those spade terminals.
Or there are some hydraulic crimpers with matching jaws on aliexpress

You can get them for 10mm2 cable from Altec, unfortunately they don't supply a tool for crimping them at 10mm2.

Just to be clear, the Brickwerks item is just an example of the terminal type.

This is the terminal I have: ALT/T105/3-3692-1-09

Hi Zoltan,

Thanks for the link, although they look similar I'm not certain the crimp shape is correct - the curve on the lower part of the connector looks too broad and I see nothing to suggest the crimp on this tool provides for the flare on the conductor crimp.
I believe they are more for battery lugs than quick-disconnect or 'Faston' style connectors.

seems like it has no section for the insulation crimps:

it looks like those 10mm2 spade terminal crimpers are super rare. I have found this jaw for a crimper:

That will only crimp 9.5mm terminals at 6mm2 - confirmed with Altec tech department.

Hi Zoltan,

Good find, they look like another set I found on Amazon but was a bit hesitant as they don't state terminal width capacity, though I expect at 10mm2 it isn't going to be 6.35mm. They were going to be my option if nothing else comes up.

Amazon tool by Astro Pneumatic

Thanks :)
