Good evening all,
I am in the process of replacing the hydraulic lifters on my 1.9dg and have managed to remove all but one - which seems to have mushroomed and is stuck in its bore hole.
I’ve read through the only other similar post to this and there is plenty of talk of bearing pullers or screwing into the lifter - two things I would like to avoid as if I can’t get it out I’d still like a somewhat functional lifter to use. Also a lot of the links on that post are out of date and no longer work.
I’ve been using a magnet sellotaped to a screwdriver - high tech I know - but I’m thinking I’ll try a stronger magnet - I was wondering if you lot had any suggestions of strong magnets that will fit down the bore holes that might be able to pull the lifter out. My only other thought was to use a blow torch to heat the area around - would this work? Or would it cause damage to the surround areas? Thanks in advance!

I use a pick , basically a screwdriver with a shaped , curved end with a point to hook the lifters out , magnets are tricky

Re: Stuck Hydraulic Lifter Removal
If it's more than very slightly mushroomed over it's knackered, but it will probably damage the lifter bore if you pull it out with force. Best practice in that scenario is to split the case and take it out from inside.
I have also used a J shaped bar to reach down the adjacent bore and pull/push on the backside of one to persuade it. Not easy, and not recommended.
