Brake Calliper Piston Winder for T25

Post by Blrsjer »

Hi all,

I'm setting out to change the front brake pads on my 1987 T25 (1.9 DG); as I understand it the callipers require you to manually wind the piston back in order to fit the pads. I was just wondering if you all could suggest a suitable piston winding tool as there's a rather large variety and I'd quite like to avoid buying a whole kit just to barely use it!

Any help is appreciated!

I use a G clamp. Well, I did until I lent it to a neighbour who moved without giving it back.

Get one of these. Take the cap off brake fluid container under dash binnacle and push back caliper piston.
Keep an eye on raising brake fluid levels as you squeeze piston.

I used the same method and tool that Rob described, if pads have worn down a lot, the piston will be more proud of the Caliper, so worth checking dust covers and when winding back in ensure the piston goes in evenly and slowly and does not catch.

Had one of these for years. Work well.
I crack the bleed nipple when pushing piston back in. Nice and easy.
Years ago on some Vauhall models 2004 -2006 you would blow the seals in the master cylinder if winding back under pressure.

Thanks for the advice chaps,

I've got a spare G-Clamp at home so I'll give that a go!
