Having just got the van all road legal I drove it for a few miles and when I got back in this morning there is a leak by the pedals. I'm assuming its brake fluid from somewhere .
Having no mechanical skills what so ever is this a jog for a garage?
First check it isn’t water. If it’s fluid probably coming from the clutch or brake master cylinder. Fairly easy to change and then bleed the system. Get a torch and peer up above your pedals and see if you can see or feel any weeping. If you take the speedo cowling off it will expose the brake/ clutch fluid reservoir for you to check levels/ connections.
David.
Going by the drip I can see in the picture at the bottom of the brakepipe, I would suggest it is the banjo connection on the master cylinder in the top left of the picture. Put a spanner on it and make sure it is tight. Then I would clean all the leaked fluid with kitchen paper so the area on the fitting and pipe are clean and dry. Then tie a piece of kitchen paper around the pipe below the banjo joint and leave it overnight. If it is leaking then the paper will become wet. If not, try driving a few miles and look again.
And probably a good idea from a safety point of view to have a proper look at the top of the pipe to make sure it hasn't split where it is pushed on to the banjo and that the leak is only from a seal!
its definitely fluid and not water.
i'll tighten that connection up and go with the kitchen towel sitting there overnight and see if its the same tomorrow.
thanks guys for the swift replies, much appreciated!
i spoke too soon drove it today and checked it again this evening and theres more fluid by the pedals. guess i need to get in and look at the master cylinder .
