Under tinware over push rod tubes

Hi there,

since I’ve owned my T25 2.0 Aircooled CU
it appears I’m missing the under Tin ware for both sides that fits over the push rod tubes.
Are these the flaps?
Can anyone help as I’m not finding any around
being trying to source but in vain.
I have a temp sender and the Van runs around 100 Celsius
Sometimes gets higher 110 when a series of hills big hills are negotiated.

I know very little about air-cooled motors But I have read more than once that tinware is essential and have also read it's not a good idea to run with any missing. Give Mick Crowe a bell he may have what you need. viewtopic.php?f=17&t=174453

They appear on ebay from time to time. I needed one for my second van, and luckily found one before the summer heat (not this year!). Is your temperature reading from an oil sensor? 100-110°c is okay,  but getting close to the upper limit. I suspect the tinware you're missing would help to reduce hot spots rather than overall heat. 
You mention flaps, these regulate cooling airflow and are attached to the metal rod that runs across the top of the fan housing. They should be operated by a bellows style thermostat located under the rhs cylinder bank. Just under the tinware you are missing. Most have failed and replacements are not available. The flaps default to wide open, which usually results in over cooling! 
Last, but by no means least, is the seal between tinware and engine bay. This is vital! Any gaps will allow the engine to suck hot air I to the cooling fan dramatically reducing it's efficiency. 
Any pictures will help if you are unsure of what is and isn't  there.

The right one was available new unril recently https://www.customandcommercial.com/vw- ... nel_24852/

The left one only second hand but hard to find as they have a hard life being battered by road spray from the rear wheels and usually rusted through, one reason they should be there to protect the pushrod tubes as well as with cooling.

The flaps are each side of the fan housing, joined by a rod across the top of the engine. They must be in place as they direct air through the oil cooler.

that information is great. I see now where the flaps are. I think I have the flaps but they appear to be permanently closed as my bellows are not working. It looks like I’m then just missing the tinware to go over the push rod tubes. I’ve sent Mick Crowe a message as suggested (thanks for the tip), if not I’ll keep searching.

I’ll post the pics but I need to find a website to host them.

The heater flaps should default to the open position if the thermostat is not working, the arm the thermostat cable connects to should be vertical when the flaps are open. Like this.
And remove the fuel filters from the engine bay, there should only be one filter just after the fuel tank outlet less chance of fuel leaks onto a hot engine, and make sure the fuel hoses are ethanol fuel safe.

Ah, I thought you meant the tinware above the pushrod tubes, not the ones covering the tubes from below. Having a second van, I made rough copies that seem to work ok.
