Don't use silicone as the paint won't stick, use something like tigerseal
I have never used this company, but this is the stuff I mean:

Hi everyone,
The best stuff to use for sealing roofs, panels, etc by far is PU seal. It doesn't peel, roll off, crack and is resistant to almost everything. It comes in a tube and requires a caulking gun.
There's a couple of things to be aware of when using this stuff:-
- Never get it on your skin. If you do wash it off immediately (if it's left on your skin after 15 minutes it will not come off at all).
- PU seal also skins quite quickly (approx 15 to 20 minutes), so I would do a bit first, then the next bit, etc.

I can attest to the "sticks like "pooh" to a blanket" properties of seam sealant.. it sort of welded itself into my palm..phade wrote: - Never get it on your skin. If you do wash it off immediately (if it's left on your skin after 15 minutes it will not come off at all).
