WBX test rig

I've been building this to test fresh rebuilds prior to dispatch.
It's built from an engine stand, bellhousing and a custom starting loom by syncrosport (all kindly donated by a grateful customer) and then modified by me to allow quick loading.
The mast has been extended 200mm to match the height of the shop engine stands, so it will make for a no-crane easy swapover using our elevating table trolley.
There's an efi fuel pump, filter and the fuel tank is an old Jaguar XJ-S swirl pot (holds a good couple of litres+) and the battery all mounted down below.
The radiator has yet to be added: I'll use a T3 one below the bellhousing, but inverted to put the hose connections in a favourable location. It won't be a problem to air bleed!
Just needs a small "dashboard" panel up top to keep an eye on things and some brackets to hold up the engine loom, then it'll be good to go.

Very nice, toyed with making something similar myself but didn't do enough rebuilds to justify. Will make testing a breeze though

Thread resurrection!

After too much faffing with wiring harnesses dangling all over the place, I ended up welding the coil/relay bracket to the big coolant pipe, along with a support for the header tank.
Just the Ignition switch to properly fix and a bracket/platform for the ecu.

I have a 2.5 about to go to Edinburgh so I cant afford any problems prior to despatch!

Currently sat full of coolant overnight to check for any seepage before any oil goes in, then I'll put some 20/50 Comma Classic ( high ZDDP) and spin her up with the plugs out to get some pressure on the gauge before first firing.

Or to find out that the dissy drive is 180 degrees out


We are a bit cramped atm due to an unexpectedly large drying cabinet that came with our new ultrasonic cleaner purchase...

The one thing about a wbx when fully dressed is that it suffers from what I call Porsche/washing machine syndrome: the basic core engine looks great but with all it's clothes on, it's no looker

Agreed. It all gets a bit busy when fully dressed. They sound great thought, especially with a nice stainless exhaust. I’m unsure whether they should shake a bit, even when warm or whether that’s just because the pistons are boxing? We’ll soon see I suppose.
