'Crashy' ride

Hi,

I find the ride in my van (high top) to be absolutely brutal. I can feel every cut/stone/divet/manhole in the road. Small potholes/dips in the road are incredibly crashy and accompanied by a huge bang.

Do you guys have similar issues? I'm unsure if I'm just used to driving modern cars, or do you think there may be a specific underlying suspension issue.

How is the rest of your suspension? I was told my van was lowered 30mm, I've replaced everything on my suspension pretty much bar the springs and it has a much firmer ride than one would expect... I wonder if springs lose some of their elasticity with age?

Knackered dampers will cause the springs to bottom out more easily and hit the bumpstops

Enormous wheels and low profile tyres will give you an uncomfortable ride.
14" wheels are standard, 15" are a reasonable upgrade, anything bigger can cause issues.

The bang/crash could also be the top hats on your trailing arms being rusted away - the back springs can then flop around.
