T25 w/c queries with pics...help!

Post by fairwynds »

Evening, can anyone answer a few queries with y rebuild....please?

1) Pic shows the (broken off) fuel pump seat/packing bit (bakerlite or similar) which, it seems, ages ago has broken off leaving part in the crankcase. Its obviously a slide it fitment, I think (and thats the first question!) but it wont slide out- help!
Image
2)Pic shows exhaust gaskets for heads, but does it matter which way around they go? Shiney side towards head or what?
Image
3) Pic shows a diagram of exhaust system for a DG 1900cc water cooled engine.....Ive marked two brackets A and B. These were NOT fitted to my system when I took it all apart.....should they be?

Thanks people.....

looking at the gaskets i'd say they can be fitted either way as the bit they seal on is the alloy ring around the centre hole which appears to be the same both sides.
now wait for the experts as thats the easy one answered

I guess you have got the fuel pump actuator rod out OK ?

If your motor is in a zillion bits, simply break the remaining parts of bakerlite with something sharp/pointed (blow remains away with an airline).

IF you are at the point of the rebuilding and the first idea is Not an option, you are going to have to use some releasing fluid to break down the carbon/oil deposits from around the bit still in the hole,,,,,,,,then glue/weld a large enough self tapping screw to the end of a screwdriver,,,, simply tighten into remaining bit of bakelite and pull out.

Gaskets,,,,personally I'd be putting the shiney side to the head, provided the mating face is completely clean....

And to the bottom picture, am I right in thinking if yours is similar to this ,yours must be an early example of a DG motor ?

I would not worry to much about the brackets if they were not there before you started,,,,,your system will work perfectly well with out them.

Regards

fairwynds, I have those exhaust brackets on mine, they are support brackets and join onto the engine. although one of mine is joined onto thin air due to lack of head on rusted in bolt. :)

Well, I got it all out! Its amazing what ingenuity and patience can do....
I made a puller thingy and packed out the space with wire coat hanger bent so it wouldnt end up in te crankcase....it worked a treat!
