Gas safety?

Post by lhd »

Would it be safe to remove the divide between the gas bottle and the electrics?
Image
I know its not ideal but its not now either.
The left compartment had a top on but there was a hole for your finger to pull it out, so it wasn't air tight.
There is a vent in the floor but I really need to get a bigger bottle in there due to the price of these little rip off ones £17.50 a fill round here.
Its either that or an underslung tank which I can't really afford right now @£100-£175.
Many thanks

it looks like the divide is there to stop the bottle slamming into the electric stuff...secure the bigger bottle and there's no chance of any damage

The bottle is not suposed to be there, its supposed to be under the van.
But I see what you mean kev.
I was more worried about the gas leaking and having the electrics there but thinking about it, lots of people don't have their gas bottles in a sealed place.

no I don't either Rob as for leaking well I've never worried as the van is a potential bomb anyway what with the LPG ..Butane..petrol...farts etc

the hole in the floor will let any gas of note out as it's heavier than air

What van is it? Early Jokers had the gas in one of the cupboards, don`t think it was that small one though. Maybe the one at the right had side of your fridge, lower shelf? That is where my gas supply comes though the floor (Club Joker underslung tank), so maybe your was fed from there once? Looks big enough to get the larger 4.5KG bottle in there? Loose a load of storage space though. :(
Keep it real.

technically, you shouldnt have the lectrics in the same locker, but logically, gas is heaveir than air and there fore falls out of the hole in the floor as it escapes, so you shoud be ok...well as ok as you are now anyway..........you wont make it worse imo

Cheers chaps.

WCJ, yes its an early Joker 83, it did have an underslung tank originaly but someone must of removed it?
The gas union is till there hanging under the van.
The centre shelf on the cupboard you weere talking of (right side of fridge) goes all the way to the back,so a bottle wouldn't fit under there without chopping around.
Its obviously a bodge job.

Our westy conversion has gas bottle in cabinet on right side of fridge. Shelf is removed. It has a 3.9kg bottle and I replaced it with a 6.0 bottle. It just fits under the drawer. Have to remove drawer to swing it in, then attach regulator and strap it in place. Water tank sets in front of gas bottle and also has a strap round it. We want an undebody tank... Much safer and more storage space.
