Core plug?

Post by jed the spread »

what is this circled in the red. i thought my water jacket was leaking untill i took the protective plate off and found it dripping from here instead. there is quite a bit of rusty gunk around it. advice on fixing the problem would be coolio bearing in mind the access to it as you can see. the one on the other side is fine.

thanks for the quick reply mark, the hex bolt one is under the stainless tube on the far left of the picture (you cant see it on the picture). thats why i thought it was a core plug. it doesnt look unlike the end of a tube of smarties. same crack the otherside - the small drip and gunk

or thinking about it is the hole the plug goes in slightly cone shaped meaning it just needs a little tap further in to make a tighter fit. bloody hell it would be handy if it is

i would try cleaning up the area as much as i could and then with a dowel of wood of the same diameter try tapping it home ? then ask yourself why it happened ? .. anyone else come across this ?

Maybe thats what happens when you use the wrong coolant, as well as the head bolts.
I wouldn't be turning them head bolts anytime soon thats for sure.
