what is this circled in the red. i thought my water jacket was leaking untill i took the protective plate off and found it dripping from here instead. there is quite a bit of rusty gunk around it. advice on fixing the problem would be coolio bearing in mind the access to it as you can see. the one on the other side is fine.
Jed is there a Hex bolt under all the fuzzy gunk ?
is so it the coolant drain plug , could be that the washer has gone or that its just furred up , takeit out and either clean or replace
thanks for the quick reply mark, the hex bolt one is under the stainless tube on the far left of the picture (you cant see it on the picture). thats why i thought it was a core plug. it doesnt look unlike the end of a tube of smarties. same crack the otherside - the small drip and gunk
then there nowt under the gunk Jed , I've just been out to the shed for a look at me 2.1 , the one you are discribing is the mirror of the drain plug ,
jed, i ve just been out into the stores, and picked up a random 2.1 head, and the hex bolt is the coolant drain, the other one is a core plug, are really sure its leaking from there>???
yep its all rusty. i dryed it really well and i can see it drip on top of the rod and form a drip on the underside. the drip is very slight but looks like its been doing it for ages. at least its not the jacket, phew!!!
or thinking about it is the hole the plug goes in slightly cone shaped meaning it just needs a little tap further in to make a tighter fit. bloody hell it would be handy if it is
So here we are Jed and all
there does appear to be a core plug , but i've had a darn good look about the net and can't find owt about them ,
anyway here are a few clearer pictures
i would try cleaning up the area as much as i could and then with a dowel of wood of the same diameter try tapping it home ? then ask yourself why it happened ? .. anyone else come across this ?
Maybe thats what happens when you use the wrong coolant, as well as the head bolts.
I wouldn't be turning them head bolts anytime soon thats for sure.
