New Exhaust paint or not?

Post by Stavros »

Just brought a nice new exhaust for my 2ltr Aircooled. It is the standard grey colour but has some scratches on it which are showing bare metal. Me is thiinking this will start to rust the surface very quickly. So should i leave it or treat it to nice coat of paint (specific exhaust paint, not emulsion :P). What do you think?

I did mine and it smelled for a week or two but i am glad i did. Its got to protect externally , however cit is always said that they rust from inside out!

I paint mine every year, and it does protect it, except where it gets really hot on the silencer. Mind you the short tail pipe has a hole in it, but it is the original 1980 one.
