starter motor code

Hi all,

i remember there was a thread on here in which Mocki listed 3 types of starter and the codes....but I can't find it!!!!!!

I have a starter sat here with the code 025 911 023A on it next to the vw/audi sign? Is this the part number.....

Bought it as Aircooled replacement - can anyone confirm???

Have yo got the right number? I've just had to fix my starter and started of quoting a code like yours. I was told I needed a 12 digit number and found another number on the corroded heap which then meant something to all the suppliers i got quotes from. My number started 000 01. suggest you look at the starter again (wire brush helpful). i seem to recall it's the number lowest down of all the numbers and lettering on the thing.

No. 5 in the list below Emm... have to be specific with engine and chassis no. F(rame No.) - please check they correlate. A 12 digit number is probably the maker's numbers, i.e. Bosch's Part No. -These are VW's

#indicates old part must be returned as exchange (even when replacement part nos are different,unless old part no. in brackets)

Guess what!!!

that list that Harryman has put up says CU CV etc which is Aircooled.....

which is what I bought it as.....

The vw parts centre that I rang determined it to be watercooled......

think I will go with Harry's list, checking the other numbers as well.

edited to add....just a thought, where we have exchanged an engine, what good is the chassis number?

I think they are chassis (F) nos. but not 100% sure. They should really be prefixed by an F, G or M for Chassis, Transaxle or Engine code... in this case I also would have though they would use an M, Motor code No...

Its common with Japanese cars to not supply anything withjout a VIN No., whatever it is, and I ran up against this with a Subaru wiring loom, engine No. doesn't tell me what it is, only Vehcile ID which is long in the crusher now - loom happens to be a very odd one madeonly for a few months!
