i've just had to do it..

use a tap thread, then pull it out with some plyers; should come out easy. Its the only way especially if its all mashed up like mine was!

Great Stuff - I went out n bought myself a m12 Tap and hooked it out! Oiled up the new one, greased up the starter Moter rod, put it all back together and now it starts like a dream!!

there is an assumption that starters failing to engage is inevitably a consequence of the bearing in the bellhousing being gone, please note symptoms of starter turning and not engaging can also result from the following:

1. the clutch drive on the starter can be worn beyond repair and needs replacing

2. There is a liner or "bearing" on the inner circumferenece of the starter pinion. If this is worn out the pinion can flay about sufficiently to prevent engagement with flywheel

General Note:
You can purchase the drive section of a starter motor for about £20

A worthy comment - the bellhousing starter support bush is not always the problem, so have put Vanjam's timely reminder above into the Wiki now.

Thanks
