Has anyone considered changing out an early T25 fusebox for the later ce1 (or ce2) combination relay and fusebox?
I'm researching the headlight relay upgrade for our 1984 US Vanagon, and think that a ce1 fusebox would be a much neater solution.
I'm guessing that it's likely to be a lot of work, but how much, and would it be worth the effort?

I'm on a early fusebox and have managed to upgrade my headlights to better than this on my wife's fiesta... just trying to say that it maybe unnecessary extra work!

you would need the complete wiring looms set for the ce1 fusebox/relay plate to suit your van (so that's lhd to match your engine) and there's a lot of stripping of the van to replace the looms, it's probably too much work to justify unless the van is being completely stripped to do a major body restoration
simple enough to add in some aftermarket relay holders and plenty of space as there's no clonking great ce1 fusebox/relay plate and mass of wiring in the way on the early vans

May not be what you looking for. Though I added a busbar fusebox next to my early fusebox (had to cut way a slight bit of the glovebox backing though can still put things in the glovebox). All my leisure stuff is on a separate fusebox. I am looking to add a relay holder, as well somewhere for my fog lights etc.

Just fit a second T3 ceramic fuseholder, that way you only have one type of spare fuse to keep. Mod the mounting plate so it sits further back to clear the glovebox.
The connections are all out of the way on the back and don't present a risk of short-circuit.
The relay-holder part can be repurposed for any additional relays which may be required (the terminals pop in and out easily enough).
The early fuseholder is actually quite a good thing for the modder, as its quite small and easy to tuck away, connections are standard 1/4" spade terminals, and it has space for an additional 4 standard relays. We like hackable !

What you CAN do, and is what I did in mine is buy a six way blade fusebox (even Halfords sell them) and one by one, move the heavier items like blower, lights and fan over to new blade fuses and just leave the existing fusebox for light duties (radio, satnav etc). I did this as part of the dash supply upgrade in the WIKI:

As said, too problematic to do a complete fusebox transplant, and probably not worth it, but you can certainly shift circuits from one fusebox to another and you don't really need as big a one as Nesty fitted unless all your leisure circuits are under there as well.
