2 Litre CU Carburetor identification and idle screw

Post by Tudor Cudd »

Hello all, hopefully someone can answer a couple of questions for me.

For some reason I can only post one photo but there is a link to photobucket, if you would care to look at those. Thanks

Firstly you will see from the photo that the carbs are Solex 32-34 PDSIT. The left hand carb (no2) is marked as Pierberg and the Right hand Carb (no 3) is something else, can anyone explain these names/markings and any significance please.

Also the photo below shows the idle screw which does not resemble photos, diagrams I have seen. any ideas how I adjust idling speed?

The left and right are not the same thats how they are supposed to be, its not a case of them being a pair doing the same job. You need ( like a lot of people ) to get yourself a Haynes workshop manual. Green for Aircooled , Blue for watercooled. It has lots of info on these carbs. The idle screw is the larger one on the top of the left carb .

The idle speed is adjusted on the idling carb which is part of the left carb.
Before you can adjust the idling if it still has the electronic idling stabiliser you have to remove the two plugs and connect them together.

Early engines you can use a flat bladed screwdriver to turn the idling screw later you need a 7mm socket.

Thankyou Big Herb that is helpful.
The picture in my Haynes manual (green one) shows a flat blade screw adjustment. My Carb must be a later version (it is one of the last air cooled) and will require a 7mm socket. I was a little concerned that the screw may be broken.

Thanks
