The plan had been to stop using the van after the summer to do all the bodywork and welding, but with the MOT due before we have our summer holiday in it, I think this bit can't wait.
Do the assembled experts think it would be an option to try and get a patch fix to see me through the MOT, and then address it properly at my leisure?

Proper job probably wouldn't take much more than a patch that looks good enough for a mot pass.
I'm no expert though so see what MM says if he pops up.
'86 1.9 DG, 4 spd, tintop, camper conversion.

Patch would suit me, but I'll go and see my MOT tester and see what he says. He's the one I have to get it past, so best for me to see what he says. An expert T25 eye would be helpful though.

Ok, more better pictures.
This shows the jacking point more clearly. The black bit above the JP is not a shadow but a hole - a gap between the JP and the sill. There is a good weld down the side of the JP onto the outrigger (correct terminology?).
This next is the underneath of the outrigger, showing how it isn't joined to the JP along this edge
This is from the rear and above, you'll see the trailing arm extending towards the lower right -sorry left- , and the JP/suspension mount with a hole above it.
This is not what I wanted to see.

Aye, and all the rest round the rest of the van. The plan was to do this all after the summer, slice the high top off and do it all in the garage, out of the Scottish weather. Is there a way to stick it together until then? The weather being what it is in this part of the world I doubt if I'd be able to do much outdoors until after May, but a limited patch job would be easier to complete.
If the van was the priority, it would be an easy choice. But life is more complicated than that for me as for so many on here. We have two weeks in the summer when my demented mother in law is in respite care rather than living with us - her parents moved in with us 20 months ago - and with my wife's limited earning potential while her ma is living with us, a holiday in the van with the kids is all we can afford (and we do enjoy our camping holidays, and have done this in various forms for many many years)
Not getting a holiday this summer would be unbearable, as last years was cancelled when her dad died the day before we went away.
So what I want to do is patch it til after the summer, and then do a proper job on this bit and all the rest. Sorry for going on a bit, I guess it's a reflection of the pressures here. Advice on the feasibility of a patch fix would be great, and I'm sure I'll be back for advice on doing it all properly after the summer.

In that area its either correct or a hodge,sorry but a patch on what you see is irrelevant ,ad the main structural tie is inside where you can't see .mm
