My 1988 1600 diesel Camper van over heated three times. I changed the rad repaired the hose and burped it as best as I could. I'm unsure how to change the thermostat. I think this the only link in the coolant system I haven't done. I looked at cover and it appears to be made of plastic! I am told that the thermostat cover is no longer made. What can I do if it brakes? I'm in a bit of a frightening place. Is there anybody who could help me?
Thank you.Pete.

Covers are available here

I would also be changing that hose you repaired for a new one as repairing it could lead to a lot more trouble.
